It was a privilege last night to commemorate the birth of James Connolly on its 40 year anniversary since it started in 1986.
Over the years it has also been a good chance to meet up with old friends and comrades who are always welcome. I always feel it grounds me in my politics and working class background. It’s a reminder. It is significantly important for folk like myself who don’t feel represented by any political party in Scotland but even more important that the life and work of James Connolly is celebrated.
The assembly point, was at Connolly’s plaque in the Cowgate, after some negotiations with the council the road was closed off last night which helped properly mark the ceremony.

Guest speakers included David Jamieson speaking for Stop The War Scotland and Tracy Miller from Unison Lothian Health Branch. Also, live music from Kevin Gore, Alan Hunter & Gerry Mulvenna.
It is fantastic work again by the James Connolly Society, and Jim Slaven in particular, that Connolly is honoured every year. I am proud to be a member of the society.
